This course covers the fundamental concepts of project management. It is built around the Project Management Institute's project management body of knowledge. Successful completion of this course prepares you to manage any type of project. Since most corporate projects today involve knowledge-based work, such as designing new computer-based systems to support corporate decision making processes, the examples in this course often focus on knowledge-oriented work. However, the techniques and methods you will master in this class can be used in any project management situation.
At the beginning of the semester, you will focus more on developing the technical skills of project management. As you acquire those technical skills, you will have opportunities to apply those skills in focused exercises. Toward the end of the semester, you will work in a more general way by analyzing case studies. By the end of the class, you will have mastered techniques for managing technology projects as well as having an ability to maintain a managerial perspective with regard to technology projects.
