Google Speaks: Secrets of the World’s Greatest Billionaire Entrepreneurs, Sergey Brin and Larry Page : By Solutionsfree.blogspot.com(Free Books and Solutions Manual,Free eBooks,BSCS,BCS,Free Downloadable Books)

In many ways, Google is the prototype of a successful twenty-first-century company. It uses technology in new ways to make information universally accessible; promotes a corporate culture that encourages creativity among its employees; and takes its role as a corporate citizen very seriously, investing in green initiatives and developing the largest corporate foundation in the United States.
Following in the footsteps of Warren Buffett Speaks and Jack Welch Speaks—which contain a conversational style that successfully captures the essence of these business leaders—Google Speaks reveals the amazing story behind one of the most important new companies of our time by exploring the people and philosophies that have made it a global phenomenon in less than fifteen years.
Written by bestselling author Janet Lowe, this book offers an engaging look at how Google’s founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, transformed their vision of a better Internet search engine into a business colossus with about $16 billion in annual revenue. Lowe discusses the values that drive Brin and Page-for example, how they both live fairly modest lives, despite each having a net worth in excess of $15.9 billion-and details how they have created a culture that fosters fun while, at the same time, keeping Google at the forefront of technology through relentless R&D investments and imaginative partnerships with organizations such as NASA.
In addition to examining Google’s breakthrough business strategies and new business models-which have transformed online advertising and changed the way we look at corporate responsibility and employee relations-Lowe explains why Google may be a harbinger of where corporate America is headed. She also addresses controversies surrounding Google, such as copyright infringement, antitrust concerns, and personal privacy and poses the question almost every successful company must face: as Google grows, can it hold on to its entrepreneurial spirit as well as its informal motto, “Don’t do evil”?
What started out as a university research project conducted by Sergey Brin and Larry Page has ended up revolutionizing the world we live in. Google Speaks puts these incredible entrepreneurs in perspective and shows you how their drive and determination have allowed them to create one of today’s most powerful companies.

Increase your Page rank: By Solutionsfree.blogspot.com(Free Books and Solutions Manual,Free eBooks,BSCS,BCS,Free Downloadable Books)

Today 4-30-07 as I was working on my PC I noticed one of my web sites had dropped in PageRank. It appears to be a GLOBAL down-trend affecting a lot of people I have talked to.

At first, I didn’t think much of it as sometimes the PageRank on a web page will fluctuate. But as I showed one of my sites to someone I noticed it too had dropped in PageRank! Holy bat cave! A PageRank Update is in full effect.

For those of you who may not know about it, Google periodically updates the PageRank that the public will see in the Google Toolbar and other places (PageRank Checkers). Back just a year or so ago it was around every month or two but has changed to every 2 or 3 or 4 months for a complete update.

Regardless of the timeframe of the public update, it’s important to know that Google PageRank is constantly updating in real time, however we don’t always get to see that ourselves until they do the ‘public update”.

So what does all of this mean? Well, for one it means that we can see PageRank on our newer sites and also see what progress we’ve made on our older established sites.

Unfortunately today - it appears that there is an “internet wide” global drop in PageRank. In other words, MANY web sites (not all) have gotten their updated toolbar display of PageRank and have seen a drop of 1 PageRank point (on a scale of 1 to 10 - 10 being best). While I am happy to say MOST of my sites stayed the same - several of them have dropped and a few of them that should have zoomed up high stayed the same. All new sites WENT UP SIGNIFICANTLY.

http://www.articleunderground.com has been a strong PR 6 with boat loads of traffic and a high Alexa rank of 16,000 and hey - it dropped from 6 to 5… that aint right! It’s never been stronger from a popularity and incoming link standpoint.

As I looked at a few more of my sites to see the new PageRank I saw a few drop that should have gone UP…

Hmmm…. was it just me? The more I checked on other sites than my own, the more that I saw drop 1 or 2 PR.

In fact very few sites I looked at from the general public had the same PageRank. Almost all the sites I looked at had dropped.

goarticles.com was now a PageRank 4…. hmmm… wasn’t that a 6??? WOW!

PR 6 to PR 4 is a HUGE DROP! And that has long been thought of as an AUTHORITY site (it’s not my site).

Other sites from other people I looked at had dropped as well… in fact almost every site that was documented in my Directory Submission lists were down on average 1 or 2 points!

linkstraffic.net down to PageRank 4 from 5…

siteinclusion.com down to 4 from 5….

(those are NOT my sites)

OK, I’m starting to feel better as it is APPARENT that globally the web has had a drop in PageRank. NOT EVERYBODY but almost every site I have looked at.

This UPDATE shows a global DOWN TREND. At least that’s what I think…. I’ve talked to a few others and they believe I am right. Their sites have dropped too. Yes, some sites have GONE UP - I have sites too that have gone up - especially the newer ones have gone up - but a couple of the older seasoned sites dropped.

What this means is that something GLOBALLY has changed in Google’s calculations.

It may be temporary, and it is certainly possible they will make another adjustment, but it seems like something that affects a lot of sites has changed.

It could be an algo change. It may only affect older sites… It could be that a few MASSIVELY POPULAR sites no longer pass PageRank (dmoz??? or Yahoo???).

It could also be that Goo has found a new way to penalize web sites for things it does not like (they don’t like a lot of things!).

It could be that there are MANY MANY MORE sites and pages in the Google database and as such the average value of a page’s PageRank has dropped… after all - the value of a page’s PR is dependant on how many pages there are. It’s a fixed value - not infinite. If someone goes up - then someone goes down - at least that is what I think.

WHO KNOWS! Nobody knows for sure!

BUT get ready for a lot of speculation as all our favorite gurus will no doubt be telling us why this has happened. Frankly I don’t think that’s possible as Google is tight lipped and rarely ever spills the reason why things happen.

I have no idea if there were really algo changes. It appears so…

I will say on my sites and on other people’s sites… this drop is significant.

So what! What does this really mean?

NOTHING REALLY!

BUT people will try to make it have meaning.

For example - those who do not have sites with high PageRank will use this to try and diminish the importance of sites who do have higher PageRank. After all it’s not very impressive to have a site with PageRank 3 or 4 and now an awful lot of PageRank 4 and 5 sites have dropped.

So do those sites and those pages have any less value? NO! They still have value RELATIVE to other pages on the net.

Only problem is that it appears we have seen a global drop so maybe a PageRank 4 is the new 5. PageRank 5 is the new 6. I don’t know! I am just speculating!

I still have pages that are PageRank 6 - so it has not affected ALL of my sites.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Because now the people who will get hurt the most are the web sites that have been selling HIGH PAGERANK text links for inflated high prices (not me - I do not sell text links). They can no longer charge big bucks if a PageRank 8 drops to 6… or a 6 drops to 4 etc.

Sooo… that brings up another SEO conspiracy theory…

Maybe Google did this on purpose to burst the bubble of those that are selling text links??? It is possible. In fact Google has made it publicly known that they are going after sites that sell text links and are aggressively trying to figure out how to penalize them. Maybe this is their easy solution of hurting businesses based on the selling high PageRank text links.

But then again - take what I say with a grain of salt as well as all the other RUMORS you’ll be hearing. There is no definitive answer yet and possibly never will be.

The good news is - IF you have any sites that stayed at the same PageRank despite this global downtrend - or went up - you know that you have a powerful site.

Me, I have a PageRank 6 that stayed the same. Surely it deserved to be a PageRank 7 but hey - at this point I am happy it is still a 6. I also have a lot of PR 5’s.

So - should you be concerned with this PageRank thing???

Well, yes and no… don’t lose sleep over it - but be aware that the more you have of it - relative to what other people have - the easier time you’ll have ranking on more competitive keyword phrases.

The “long tail phrases” in general are unaffected by PageRank, as very few webmasters target these longer phrases. BUT if you are going after super competitive phrases like “internet marketing” or “search engine optimization” it is extremely important that you have very high PageRank to get ahead of the thousands of other webmasters actively trying to be on top for those phrases.

PageRank is not the only weight factor - but it is ONE OF THEM.

I think the bottom line message I would like to deliver is - while it does have importance - you should not obsess over how much PR your pages have.

As long as you have lots of good high quality text links containing the words you want to rank on, you should do well.

Get as many links as you can from pages with high PageRank, but now more than ever, we need to take all the links we can get and not discriminate against pages that only have PR 3 or 4…

SECRET TECHNIQUE of the NETWORK STARS

Match TITLE keywords with LINK TEXT keywords.

Sure - more PR on the page is better - but you can do other things to make your links count more - such as matching the TITLES of the pages your links are on with the LINK TEXT pointing at your URL.

This tactic works regardless of PageRank… sure it may work better if the page has high PR but let’s face it - very few webmasters are doing this secret technique.

I’d say less than 1% of the so-called SEO experts know about this trick.

So, it’s still important to care about your links, but maybe be concerned a bit more with the overall quality than simply the PageRank of the page.

As always - this article is up for discussion.

I’m sure there will be many differing opinions on this. Let’s hear from you. What do you think happened today?

Why did the PageRank drop - or did it?

Maybe you think I am full of it!

Tell us what YOU think!

Google Hacking for Penetration Testers, Volume 1 [ILLUSTRATED]:

Book Description
Google, the most popular search engine worldwide, provides web surfers with an easy-to-use guide to the Internet, with web and image searches, language translation, and a range of features that make web navigation simple enough for even the novice user. What many users dont realize is that the deceptively simple components that make Google so easy to use are the same features that generously unlock security flaws for the malicious hacker. Vulnerabilities in website security can be discovered through Google hacking, techniques applied to the search engine by computer criminals, identity thieves, and even terrorists to uncover secure information. This book beats Google hackers to the punch, equipping web administrators with penetration testing applications to ensure their site is invulnerable to a hackers search.

Penetration Testing with Google Hacks explores the explosive growth of a technique known as "Google Hacking." When the modern security landscape includes such heady topics as "blind SQL injection" and "integer overflows," it's refreshing to see such a deceptively simple tool bent to achieve such amazing results; this is hacking in the purest sense of the word. Readers will learn how to torque Google to detect SQL injection points and login portals, execute port scans and CGI scans, fingerprint web servers, locate incredible information caches such as firewall and IDS logs, password databases, SQL dumps and much more - all without sending a single packet to the target! Borrowing the techniques pioneered by malicious "Google hackers," this talk aims to show security practitioners how to properly protect clients from this often overlooked and dangerous form of information leakage.

*First book about Google targeting IT professionals and security leaks through web browsing.

*Author Johnny Long, the authority on Google hacking, will be speaking about "Google Hacking" at the Black
Hat 2004 Briefing. His presentation on penetrating security flaws with Google is expected to create a lot of buzz and exposure for the topic.

*Johnny Long's Web site hosts the largest repository of Google security exposures and is the most popular destination for security professionals who want to learn about the dark side of Google.

About the Author
Johnny Long is a professional hacker and security researcher for Computer Sciences Corporation. Johnny has written or contributed to several books, including Google Hacking for Penetration Tester from Syngress Publishing, which has secured rave reviews.

John Battelle, The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture:

John Battelle, The Search
John Battelle, The Search
If you pick your books by their popularity–how many and which other people are reading them–then know this about The Search: it’s probably on Bill Gates’ reading list, and that of almost every venture capitalist and startup-hungryentrepreneur in Silicon Valley. In its sweeping survey of the history of Internet search technologies, its gossip about and analysis of Google, and its speculation on the larger cultural implications of a Web-connected world, it will likely receive attention from a variety of businesspeople, technology futurists, journalists, and interested observers of mid-2000s zeitgeist.
This ambitious book comes with a strong pedigree. Author John Battelle was a founder of The Industry Standard and then one of the original editors of Wired, two magazines which helped shape our early perceptions of the wild world of the Internet. Battelle clearly drew from his experience and contacts in writing The Search. In addition to the sure-handed historical perspective and easy familiarity with such dot-com stalwarts as AltaVista, Lycos, and Excite, he speckles his narrative with conversational asides from a cast of fascinating characters, such Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin; Yahoo’s, Jerry Yang and David Filo; key executives at Microsoft and different VC firms on the famed Sandhill road; and numerous other insiders, particularly at the company which currently sits atop the search world, Google.
The Search is not exactly the corporate history of Google. At the book’s outset, Battelle specifically indicates his desire to understand what he calls the cultural anthropology of search, and to analyze search engines’ current role as the “database of our intentions”–the repository of humanity’s curiosity, exploration, and expressed desires. Interesting though that beginning is, though, Battelle’s story really picks up speed when he starts dishing inside scoop on the darling business story of the decade, Google. To Battelle’s credit, though, he doesn’t stop just with historical retrospective: the final part of his book focuses on the potential future directions of Google and its products’ development. In what Battelle himself acknowledges might just be a “digital fantasy train”, he describes the possibility that Google will become the centralizing platform for our entire lives and quotes one early employee on the weightiness of Google’s potential impact: “Sometimes I feel like I am on a bridge, twenty thousand feet up in the air. If I look down I’m afraid I’ll fall. I don’t feel like I can think about all the implications.”
Some will shrug at such words; after all, similar hype has accompanied other technologies and other companies before. Many others, though, will search Battelle’s story for meaning–and fast.

This is a book about Web Services. Web Services are still more like movement than a mature technology. The movement is motivated by a vision of a semi-automated web that can support long chains of interactions between autonomous agents.

There are three important components to that vision. One is interoperability: a service can have clients (agents) from any platform, in any language. Another is autonomy: an agent can discover the services it needs from their published descriptions that include both what the service can do and how it does it (the interfaces of available actions).
The third is (semi) automatic code creation: one description can be used by a development framework to automate the creation of code for clients and by the services themselves. As of today, interoperability is close to full realization, with only occasional glitches; autonomy is a distant vision; code creation is useful but it still has problems.
Interoperability has been achieved in part by using an XML-based high-level protocol (SOAP) for message exchanges between clients and services. As long as the client can produce message in the right format, it doesn’t matter what language they’re written in or what platform they run.
The first three chapter of this book show how to write platform-independent Web Services clients in Javascript and Java running from within a browser.
Chapters 4 and 5 continue with the idea of integration, but this time authors develop a service of their own (a local book club) and show how it can be integrated with other services (like amazon).
Chapter 5 add some security to te service but also intodruces an important new services: Web services without SOAP. There is a large movement and a well-motivated argument that SOAP is not good idea, and that the same benefits of interoperability can be achieved using just HTTP.
In Chapter 6, authors introduce a great tool - XSLT — and show how it can be used to process the output of a web service.
Chapter 7 continues with REST, showcasting another great tool called WebDAV.
In Chapter 8, authors use WebDAV and XSLT to develop a framework for collaborative authoring of a store of documents.
Finally in Chapter 9, authors show how the current state of WebServices’ description and automatic code generation supposed to work and does work in simple cases.
